Foster Mom Verena

There is no way to describe how I feel about animals … LOVE and being so grateful to be able to share my life with them but so much more.

Many of us think there is not much we can do to help these poor souls that are left in a cold shelter.  We don’t have a lot of money to donate, but we have a voice and our love to give.  We can help by just dropping off some blankets for them to sleep on, or sitting with a lonely cat for a few minutes, or taking a frightened dog out for a walk and some snuggles and telling our friends to do the same.  We can’t adopt all of them but fostering one until they can find a good home is so easy to do.  It doesn’t take a lot of money, just love, time, some food and a warm place for them to sleep.  It is an almost selfish thing to do because you get so much for giving so little. The love, the snuggles and kisses, the laughs, the gratefulness, happiness, the memories and pride you will receive in return are priceless.

Strangers will think that you’re just the nicest person — (great for singles!)

The only tough part is having to let them go once they find their “forever” family.  It is sad to part with such a good friend, but at the same time, we have to be happy for them and ourselves, knowing that we will now be able to save another little creature.

I work with a lot of very wealthy seniors getting ready to move into retirement homes.  As we sort through their highly valuable possessions, they often finally realize that those are all meaningless.  One of the few things that matters towards the end of your life are your memories, the love you felt and received.

There are often many, many pictures of beloved pets, sometimes their ashes, teeth, leashes .. “We have to keep these, all the other stuff can go away” they usually tell me …

And please, become vegetarians everyone! One more easy thing to do to help animals!
